Depression claims the lives of 2 males everyday in Australia & 7 attempting, hundreds of Sons, Brothers, Fathers, Husbands, Uncles, Grandfathers & Friends take their lives every year. Unfortunately I have had family members & friends that are no longer with us, in some cases I couldn’t see it coming & in other instances it was no surprise. I know the feeling of hopelessness & I’ve seen the fall out that this creates. The sad reality is that most people can’t think of someone they know that has died in a car accident yet they know someone who has taken their life. Hi Richard, I am sure you have many people emailing you who suffer from depression I am a Bipolar sufferer and have been since I was 16 medicated and hospitalized many times and like you, 3 attempts which I too do not like to discuss. I saw you on Kerri Ann, read your story and thought how lucky you are to have a supportive boss, friends and family. I have very supportive children who are educated on my disorder but due to my depression, have lost many friends and recently my job. You are an inspiration to many sufferers I am sure especially men. I watched you on the segment and I could still see the pain you go through and I understand as we go through it sometimes every day. I could see it in your face. Sorry for rattling on. I just wanted to congratulate you and support you in my words that I do understand and even though my medication works wonders I wish there was a cure.

To Sarcia , Leigh , and Natalie , you have one heck of a great dad , when we first met I couldnt help but think what a top person he is , and a friendship developed from the new tyre that we put on his bike at the bike shop to coming home to meet my family and having dinner with us , meeting him 170km further north and staying at my brother Waynes for the night where he reached out and with a few encouraging words has got him thinking along the right path , as far as Richards health is concerned I can only say this from 1974 to 1979 whilst working on the railways in Goulburn NSW , on some weekends I use to take the trip down the Clyde mountain to Batemans Bay with a couple of mates to go fishing , the gradient was so severe you had to pull over every few minutes to let the brakes cool down with smoke coming off them , this gives you an idea how steep it is , any demons that he had are all buried on that mountain , he has the biggest smile , the clearest of eyes , the biggest TAN (sorry Natalie) and he is doing it easy , the Clyde mountain is behind him , having ridden from Adelaide to Taree 2500 km, myself I can see he will reach his goal , Richard thank you for coming into our lives and you and I have unfinished business , my family say a big hello to you... best regards Al.

Hi Richard, good to see your at Coffs Harbour ,, if you get a spare chance go to Coffs Harbour Jetty ,, across the railway line and you will see a Fishermans coop amongst all the boats, you can have a beaut meal cooked from fish straight off the trawler, its about 3/4 kms from the town centre , Vicky and I were up there only a couple of weeks ago with our neighbours ,,,, its great reading your diary , keep your good work going , and dont forget to keep your legs shaved , they looked awsome when you came through Taree , (just dobbing you in) ,,,, also a big hello to your family back home , you all must be stoked, ,, cheerio for now Richard from Al.
